APATHY

Chances are, you've already come across the meme below on one of your social media visits.
The past, back in the 70s, expected a lot from the 2000s - as well as the 20s expected from the following decades, and so on.
And, in fact, some of the technologies that have emerged over the past 50 years have had an impact that smoothes out other not-so-good effects that came with it. So, ironically, however, our balance is still negative.

We are constantly consuming information about promising robotics and high tech scenarios - and not necessarily about flying cars, after all, it is not enough just to be viable, it has to be profitable.
In fact, we are constantly consuming information. All the time. Even when we don't want to.
And this flow of data, events, information, combined with a routine that leaves us with our hands tied when the objective is to challenge the status quo, makes us apathetic.
Is that so.
But this happens since the world is the world.
My idea here is not to try to awaken in you the feeling of savior or savior of the planet, this is a matter of ego.
This increasingly robotic moment, which we even discussed in the last edition of the Ride, about the services provided by robots , can make the eyes of enthusiasts of technological evolution shine, but it is essential to ask further: will this evolution never stop?
For Max Tegmark, cosmologist and professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), this concern must be taken very seriously , because among the immediate problems that this technological acceleration can bring, the first one he lists is precisely social inequality .
If in 2020 we didn't have flying cars, in 2021…
… We still live in a Brazil that, at the same time it returned to the Map of Hunger , placed 10 new names in the 2021 World Billionaires ranking .
Does the account not close or does the account close perfectly?
Challenging a system with centuries of plastering in which the main and sole purpose is to enrich the richest and impoverish the poorest is not an easy task, much less a quick one. However, it is necessary to accept, as soon as possible, that this way does not work - or, not to be so pragmatic, this way, we will continue to die in ways that should no longer be acceptable, such as hunger, cold, stray bullet, virus that already has vaccine.
When you stop looking at the basic needs of a human being, you start seeing him as anything but a human being. And “anything” does not carry feelings, or at least sensations worthy of being seen as a basic right. And it's not that “the hole is lower”; the truth is that the hole is getting bigger, getting deeper and, frighteningly, being filled... by people .
The article above is from January 2021. It shows the lives of people who live in holes in viaducts and bridges in São Paulo, the richest city in Brazil . If we already (or still) consider the streets and viaducts as inappropriate places to call “housing”, in what position is the structural wear of road constructions?
Hey, but do you want to save the planet?
It's not there. In a conversation with the astrophysicist and professor at USP, Roberto da Costa, I learned that one of our biggest mistakes, as a species, is to forget that the Earth is a ball of elements in the periodic table with 4.5 billion years old and a few more numbers. huge in weight and diameter. The planet doesn't need to be saved. But humanity, yes. And if we don't worry about the survival of humanity, nothing else will.
Apathy
However, we have lost the ability to worry. It's not new, but especially in recent years, we live in a constant state of apathy, of anesthesia. For two reasons, in short: 1. as if we took many punches in the same place in the body, the area is already anesthetized, it doesn't hurt anymore, but it still causes damage; 2. You just don't get punched, and instead gain defensive tools to get away with it all.
All our access to different information and the latest technological advances cannot be synonymous with detachment from the sense of humanity.
Technological advances are the result of the basics and they must respond to the basics. Innovating in 2021 is not just looking at flying cars, but at empty stomachs, homeless heads, targets and vulnerability. While this is not a watchword, The Girls will still be timeless: the top goes up and the bottom goes down - more and more.
